In its second century now and in great shape, ready to keep making music. The guitar bears the serial number on the neck block as expected but also in pencil under the top along with the initials 'FHM', those being for Frank Henry Martin, owner of the company at the time. Typical of Martins from the teens, the guitar is very lightly built and thus super responsive even to the lightest touch. The top is red spruce with very dainty scalloped traditional X bracing. The back and sides, Brazilian rosewood with beautiful color and figure. The neck has a nut width of 1 7/8', which is typical of Martin guitars from this era, but the very graceful low profile 'V' shape of the barrel gives this neck a very comfortable feel. The pin spacing at the bridge is 2 3/8' and the scale is 24 1/4'. The guitar has had the nut replaced but the original ivory nut is still present with the guitar and will be sold with the instrument. All of the interior bracing (including the diminutive bridge plate) is intact and original. There once had been a tail piece on the guitar as evidenced by the scarring on the top between the bridge and the end block, that was removed long ago and the mounting screw holes plugged and the finish touched up. The bridge appears to be original and unaltered, in spite of there having been a tail piece in use on the guitar at some point. The back and sides have a couple of very fine hairline crack repairs that are tight, level and stable and appear to be old, and there also appears to be some well done finish touch up on those repairs. There is also a short crack repair at the end pin which is visible in one of the photos. The top appears as if the center seam might have been reglued at some time in the long past down below the bridge, well done and requires nothing currently. No top cracks. The entire instrument shows signs of handling and play in the finish, but no significant wear or damage. The neck angle was reset within the last few years at Folkway Music in Toronto. The angle is perfect and the bar frets level and dressed nicely. The guitar is currently strung with silk and bronze strings and plays beautifully for fingerstyle so strung. The action measures 6/64' at the low E at the 12th fret and 5/64' at the high E. There is plenty of saddle showing above the slot. Intonation is good. Excellent tonal response across the entire range of the instrument and very good projection. Comes with a new Harptone hard shell case.
